A journey to the Plitvice Lakes National Park offers rich rewards. Set in central Croatia, the forest reserve features a chain of 16 terraced lakes joined by waterfalls that extend into a  limestone canyon. Meanwhile the less energetic can take in the 12 upper and four lower lakes by boat and visit the Veliki Slap waterfall, towering nearly 80 metres high.
