Paklenica National Park – Zadar Region

Paklenica offers a multitude of hiking and rock climbing opportunities in spectacular surrounds. The National Park’s ancient and primeval beech forests, on Mount Velebit’s southern slopes, are UNESCO Heritage listed.

It consists of: two striking canyons, Velika (Big) Paklenica and Mala (Small) Paklenica; dramatic karst rock formations; a high concentration of intact forests including black pine, oak, beech, oriental hornbeam and ferns; numerous caves and pits; a host of animals including protected bat species and endangered birds of prey; and also many rare and endangered plant species.
